What we do on the weekends

Made our first batch of cinnamon rolls ever! With flour everywhere, I am still surprised at how good they were... Beck hated waiting all day for them to get bigger and bigger...
Wash our bikes with daddy
and yet another project for me. Stephen hates coming home and the house smells like spray paint wafting in from the garage (is wafting a word?)But I do love how it turned out. :) (I promise there is pink in the fabric of the 2 chairs and surprisingly it matches just perfect!)

Today we went on a walk. Paisley was in a stroller with me pushing and Beck was riding Paisley's tricycle. He stopped.
Beck: "wait, let me think for a minute" with hand on chin, ponder look on his face
Beck: "I'm trying to think what my heart is wanting me to think."

Numbers and Prayer

Lately Beck has had this major obsession with numbers. Which frankly I am kind of excited about because I hate math, so I am hoping that he caught Stephen's side of that. He likes to count and wants to know what numbers come next and says things like "seven in more than 6..." The other day he says to me:
Beck: what is six zero five?
Me: (kind of hearing him, but not answering...)
Beck: mom, listen to my words, what is six zero five?
Me: six hundred and five
Beck: count to six zero five mom
Me: 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10... I made it up to 236 and he gave up and walked away....

Tonight as Beck was saying family prayer, he was doing a really great job thanking HF for lots of stuff, like school, and friends, and break dancing. Stephen was telling him: to bless that we can sleep in our beds.
Beck: Bless that we sleep in our beds, for a second
Stephen: all night long
Beck: bless that we can sleep in our beds, all night long, with mommy...

LOL, what can I say, my kids love me. :)

Car Trouble

So the other day I had to take my little brother to the airport. We went to get in the car and it wouldn't start. I have forever had troubles with the Impala's battery and it always seems to happen right when I am headed to something that I HAVE to be at! (Thank you one time to Bekah Mardis years ago for hauling me and my kids to a Dr appt for Paisley when she was itty bitty!) and thanks Brandon for driving all the way to my house to give me a jump when really all I needed to do was put my car in park.... hehe.
Forward to today. Headed back from Othello taking my nephew home and picking up my baby Paisley. Rushing to make it home before 9, so that I don't miss Lost. Car starts losing power, uh-oh.... I move the cute little picture of Beck and Paisley and sure enough I had run out of gas. Dang it.
Call the heroine sister (hubby is gone) and over an hour later (she had to leave work, go buy a gas can and bring me a Mountain Dew to ease the stress and go get me gas) before she got there with her car full of kids and my kids who had begged for the DVD player to be on, so now my battery is dead, kids climbing all over the seats, and oh! I peed on my leg because I couldn't hold it anymore, then I got nervous because I saw a car coming.... But she made it and we jumped the car all by ourselves, with a few mishaps and sparks, and we spilled half the gas all over the car, road, Kortni's hands and shoes. But I made it home, kids in bed, in debt to a sister, and I got to watch Lost on the recorded TV, but now I can't sleep!!!! Argh!

It's DONE!



I finally finished it! Seriously, after 7 coats of red paint, then 3 coats of red spray paint, YES, I have finally done the spray paint thing on a big piece of furniture and I LOVE spray paint! I have only used it before on small pieces, but I was sick of painting coat after coat of brushing it on, so I did the spray paint and I finished it! Whoo hoo! So add glaze and a top coat, and it's DONE!!! I finally got my brother who was visiting and Stephen to haul it inside and I really like it. Stephen is not too much of a lover of it, but I really do like it. I store the board games in the big one. I need to stop putting stuff on top of all the furniture in my house, but I have so many picture frames and the holes in my wall are not getting any less. The pieces of wood in the black shadow frame are pieces of floorboard of the gymnasium that my Grandpa Beck was a janitor of while he attended college at Albion Normal School. We took a tour of the condemned building a few summers ago. It was fun to hear his stories. I'm glad that I picked up those pieces of wood, even if the rest of my family thought I was crazy for carrying around old pieces of wood.
I also finished an ivory colored table and Paisley's rocking chair that my Grandma picked up at an auction for her a few years back. Maybe if she ever gets her own room I can repaint it a fun color, but I had to have it match somewhere where she actually uses it now. Spray paint is so much faster, I gotta figure out the drips though, guess I should just brush it away, but sometimes I spray and walk away and then come back and it has drips, but I still love it and once you've spray painted, you may NEVER go back to painting with a brush!!! small table: craigslist, $15I now have an old rocker and a quilt rack sitting in my makeshift "painting area" of the garage. I can't stop searching craigslist for furniture with lots of detail even though I don't have anymore room...

Man, my son has style....
My little brother Kalan is here visiting. He brought Beck up all his old Batman's that he had growing up. Beck thought it was Christmas morning all over again. He was so super excited!Paisley likes all the Batman stuff too.

My niece Hanna and other niece Rylee stayed over for the weekend. Hanna staying the night was unexpected, so she didn't have any clothes Saturday morning when we went for a walk. SO we improvised. She did say that she looked funny, but she didn't really care. She even went to Wal-Mart with me dressed like this. I love that she is still at an age where stuff like this doesn't really bug her. She turns 9 next month the day before Paisley's 2nd birthday. So in case I forget, Happy Birthday Hanna!

I went to Wal-Mart today for an eye appt at their vision center and then to grab a few groceries for dinner tomorrow. I had my niece with me and we were meeting my sister there because I was late for the appt in order for her to get her daughter. 4:00 was appt time and I was running a few minutes late, but after 45 minutes in appt and then 20 minutes getting some groceries, I met Kortni and Hanna (sister and niece) again in line and we walked out together having parked only a few rows away from each other. As I got closer to my car, I thought that it looked like the tail lights were on, you know how the sun shines on them just right to make them look like they are on? then I was looking for my keys, which I normally clip to a handle on my purse. Nothing... racking my brain trying to remember if I had set my keys down? Then I realize it sounds like my car is running? .....yeah, I totally left my keys in the ignition, car running, unlocked, GPS on seat, DVD player hooked up. Wow.
Moral of the story is: if you WANT someone to steal your car, do not leave it between 4:00-5:30 in the Wal-Mart parking lot, people are probably more desperate at night. :)

Paisley covers everything with wipes. Pencils, shoes, forks... anything that I guess she considers a "baby," she'll use a wipey and cover it up to "tuck it in" I guess. Drives. Me. Insane. I run downstairs and come up a few minutes later and there is a battlefield of wipeys all over the living room covering all the little baby Carebears, a few Transformers, a pencil, my phone, and the cat has even had a few wipeys on him. So I finally decided rather than fight her on this one and continue to waste dried out wipes, I showed her my dish rag drawer, at least those won't be ruined right?
So the other day I pull open the drawer and it was empty.... She had used each and every one of the 30+ dish rags to cover all her "babies" in the house. She sure knows how to push her mom's buttons and then make me chuckle all at the same time. :)

Thank you Grandma Mimi!

My Grandma Mimi sent Beck some birthday money and he got it in the mail today. Tuesday is our late night home from the gym, so I told him we could go get him a toy tomorrow, after unsuccessfully trying to get him to put it in our New York fund jar. But after I got us and all our bags inside he comes running up to me and points at the 20 on the 20 dollar bill and says, "wow! It says 20! I can get 20 toys for this 20 dollars!" The wonder on his face and not to mention a beaming mother who was sooo excited that he found, pointed out, and KNEW what the 20 was decided to pack em up and head to Wal-Mart..... 7 PM and counting.... After eating Wal-Mart popcorn chicken for dinner (don't judge, you know you've done it to) we grabbed our 2 gallons and milk and a few other things and headed for the toys. First we hit the toy clearance aisle, but Beck was very careful in what he was going to choose. He knew that he could possibly get two or three toys if the numbers (prices) were smaller than the numbers 2 and zero. After carrying around some Star Wars Lego guys for a bit, and then trading for some different Star Wars figures that were not lego and checking out every other toy in the toy section, we made it halfway up to the checkout, with Paisley hanging out of the cart, crying insanely for a "baba" aka sippy of milk, he decided that he wanted guys that "move" and the Star Wars guys that he had were stationery so back we go to the toys. Good ol' Transformers always pull through....

Checking em all out. $4.97 a piece, he finally decided on 3 of them after we took pictures of the front and back of each different one.
And this, my friends, is real. The real Paisley pout that she has mastered over the last month or so. She is getting very good at it. No, she is not Shiloh Jolie-Pitt, she is Paisley and she is mad.....
No collagen here, all Paisley Marion Ashton and her grumpy, pouting glory. The screaming match follows in about 2 minutes....

He has decided. He has also already decided which one he is going to open in the car for the way home.
Soooo excited that he got change! I also suggested that that go in the NY jar, but he wasn't buying it..... This is the Pony that Paisley made out with that Beck "bought" for her. (He didn't have enough, but he will never know that) He was nice enough to think of his little sister and he really wanted to pick out something for her, I didn't care if he wanted to buy her a motorized Barbie car, I was gonna get it!

So great-grandma Mimi, we thank you for the Birthday money and for the experiences and toys that we got with it! We love you!

And yes, Beck knows that he can get 20 dollar store toys that may break, or a few nice toys for 20 dollars instead, but he has not yet realized that NY York may be a lot better in the long run. I think that he takes after me. ;)

Getting ready to just strip it and start all over with a different color. Stephen keeps offering to take it to the dump, but I see a treasure slowly forming, if I can ever finish!
